Wow. Just. Wow.

I've dreamed of working with Drake since I was 18. I infiltrated the digital retouching area to interview Bren back in the good old days when Photoshop was something professionals used. ;)

I took a break from working at my studio, went on a mission for my church to Sicily, learned Italian, but have yet to visit the boot! I'm going there someday with or without Mr. Busath. With would be a literal dream come true, however...

The Italian Riviera is my favorite place in all of Italy to photograph...I love the Cinque Terre, Camogli and all parts around and in between. Late September is a great time to visit that area as well and I know that Drake will lead a wonderful workshop.

The ethics of limited editions? I don't think so. This is purely an economic and marketing issue. I don't offer limited editions, don't currently have the market awareness to even consider them, but as my body of work grows, and I get to make that choice, I am not even sure what I will choose. But I can assure you it will be based on my own marketing plan and economic projections of the benefits or penalties of limiting a print run on my own bottom line. There is nothing unethical about that.

I'm growing weary of the Ansel Adams comparisons too. Truth be told, he made his living shooting annual reports for California oil companies for most of his career. Then he proceeded to bight the hands that fed him. It wasn't until much later in life that his prints sold for enough money to put food on the table.

Photographers may choose to limit prints for reasons not discussed above. Competition and the availability of artwork for purchase has never been greater. A limited supply increases perceived value in almost any product. Why wouldn't a struggling artist do whatever is necessary to increase that perceived value to generate sales?

All other things being equal,(and they seldom are) an artist in any medium must choose their own course. Open or limited editions, print size, printing techniques, galleries or shows, all the decisions are up to the individual artist and it's really kind of ridiculous for their peers to even discuss their decisions in a public forum. If you have an issue with the way I price or number my images, give me a call or send me an email. Otherwise, just shut up!

If I hear another Ansel Adams comparison I'm going to drink my own vomit. He didn't limit his editions because he had almost no competition. He also took photos from the roof of his car in order to eliminate a stable shooting platform when using film and to capture almost no foreground. Overrated.
