Thirty years ago Manfrotto began building tripods. Soon after, Bogen began importing their terrific lineup into the US. To prove their strength, the first advertisements pictured Lester Bogen perched atop one of these great devices. We have discovered their strength and durability, as well as their unique leg locks, a wide variety of leg and head combinations, and countless other features.

What good is a tripod if the legs don’t lock securely? While many tripods use a twist lock action with a plastic or fiber jamb rings, Bogen does not. The fiber rings tend to disintegrate over time, especially if they have been waterlogged, rendering them useless. The plastic rings may not lock, if the legs were ever retracted with dirt or sand on them. The debris forms a slippery and unreliable layer between the plastic ring and the leg. Bogen uses either flip-locks or tensioning knobs to secure their legs. Should these fasteners ever become loose they may be retightened with the included tool. Bogen tripods won’t leave you stranded in the field.

Bogen has become an innovator with many of their new designs. The new compact digital tripods were born compact and transportable to match the requests of lightweight digital camera users. To keep the price affordable and make them more user friendly, this line has a non-interchangeable head design. Professional carbon fiber models utilize the latest in distinctive raw materials to provide incredible lightness with great rigidity. Many of the new tracker and wilderness models feature a molded rubberized material on the upper leg section to prevent hands from freezing in winter, while being transported in the field.

Studio tripods are heavy duty, solid and robust units that will support up to a 44 pound load. For studio use there are optional dollies, which lock a set of wheels right onto the tripod to broaden its usage. All studio models have geared center columns to provide a firm extension up to 105 inches (8.75 feet) yet still be usable down to 17 inches (1.5 feet), as in the model 3058.

Versatility, on most models, is further maximized with a large range of interchangeable head designs to choose from. Three way adjustable styles are offered in geared or the twist lock handle manner. Ball heads are offered in micro size, to support 4 pounds up to the pro size which will support 35 pounds. Most of the video heads are available with internal fluid dampening for sweet, smooth camera pans. Practically all heads have some type of quick release plate to go from a hand held wobble to tripod steady in an instant.

Bogen tripods and accessories are the best support your creativity can get.
