Kodak’s
Fast Dye Sublimation Printer
Last month the picturelinnews reported on
the Kodak
ML-500 Digital Photo Print System.
pictureline now has a demo system set up
in the store’s digital studio upstairs.
This dye sublimation printer is so much faster
than the Kodak XL 7700 that I first used
some years back. No longer is the wait time
between prints described in minutes. The
ML-500 can produce a true photo-quality 8x10
print in only 13 seconds. That equals about
270 prints per hour, which is four to six
times faster than other dye sublimation or
inkjet printers on the market.
Another item I found wonderful about the
ML-500 is that the prints are great looking.
I know that this should be a given in such
a pro-line of printers, but its not always
the case. As the 8x10’s rolled out
into the catch basket on the printers front,
I was dazzled. They were as bright and sharp
as anything I have seen, including traditional
darkroom prints. This is a good sign, because
dye-sublimation is an extremely stable process
and ML-500 prints will be gorgeous for a
long time to come.
I can see why this printer will be very
attractive to any lab, school, or wedding
and special event photographer. The Kodak
professional ML-500 Digital Photo Printer takes its name from the 500 foot rolls of
both ribbon and paper that it uses for printing,
and it is in individual rolls with a separate
print head for each. This makes the unit
look large, but you don’t have to sit
and baby tend the system to see if inks have
run out or constantly add paper. It all seems
so effortless. The ML-500 will also operate
with either a PC or a Mac, which I find to
be a nice touch.
I am including here ML500_4_22.pdf and here
ML500 Brochure4_22.pdf information from Kodak
that you will want to read and study over.
This will provide the facts, such as 8x10
prints only cost about a $1.00 each in materials.
Seems like another good reason to own a ML-500.
I am adding here ML500
Testimonial.pdf information
on how one client, tired of run of the mill
school photos, is utilizing the ML-500 in
their new creative workflow.
