Mac Mac Migration

Mac has announced a new migration tool that will expedite the set up of your next new computer. This is a firewire transfer that will swiftly move everything from your old Mac to your new Mac machine. No more burning CD’s, having to reload every application again or trying to locate that old Jaz drive and cartridge. The one big thing the included PDF instructions do not make clear is that both machines need to be operating with Mac OS X or higher, the old machine needs to be running and the firewire must be plugged into the new machine before it is started for the first time. With all of that in line, the rest is a piece of cake. Just sit back and wait for it to finish. Your new Mac will look and be organized just like your old Mac, except shinier of course.

Some great features we've already noticed include:

• Bookmarks are saved from your old web browser settings
• All email preferences and messages are still available in Mac OS X Mail program.
• Many applications are available without reinstalling.
• Network settings are unaffected.
• All Files and Documents are still in the same organization that you had before.
• Applications in the Dock are preserved in place.
• ...much more

If you are purchasing or upgrading your mac, don't hesitate to use this great new feature.

p.s. If you forget to plug in your old mac by firewire and have already gone through the installation, no problem. Just open up your Applications | Utilities folder and double-click on your Setup Assistant. This will restart the setup process and allow you to transfer your files.
