 Epson 4870 Scanner

Epson’s New 4870 Scanner

In the world of digital imaging the flat bed scanner was one of the first peripherals invented. The scanners operational success came directly from the copier industries long history of accomplishments. Now scanners are as commonplace as keyboards.

However, strings of black letters worming their way down a white page just doesn’t cut it any longer. Gone are the days of simply reproducing text pages. Today, a scanner must be able to speedily ingest color photographs and convert them into digital files with fidelity. When Epson capitalized on that technology, they added the onboard slide adapter and the photo industry was pleased. Over the years Epson has continually given their customers one great hit after another. What if the high quality and power you have grown to expect were available, without the high-end price? Well now it is.

Experience and evolution gives rise to the fabulous Epson Perfection 4870 Photo scanner. It has clarity and reproduction comparable to that of expensive dedicated film scanners, this premium product provides the flexibility to automatically scan and restore photos, transparencies, and more. Its built-in 6" x 9" transparency unit accommodates film as large as 4" x 5" or up to twenty-four 35mm negative images simultaneously. And, its superior 4800 x 9600 dpi resolution and stunning 3.8 Dmax deliver intricate detail for phenomenal reprints and enlargements. This isn’t your father’s scanner any more.

Operation is a snap with the software included. The 4870 now features “Digital Ice” technology for removing dust and scratches on film and corrects tears, folds and creases on prints. Epson Easy Fix Technology offers automatic color restoration, grain reduction and dust removal features. The 4870 Pro version even adds LaserSoft’s Silver Fast Ai 6 software for ultimate scanning color control.

Uploading to your computer is simplified with both, hi-speed USB 2.0 and FireWire (IEEE 1394) connection ports. You can connect to the PC platform with a Pentium (or equivalent processor) running Windows 98 second edition or higher or to any Mac running a G3 processor or higher in OS 8.6, 9.x and 10.2x or later. The scanner requires a footprint space of 12 inches wide, 19 inches long. It weighs in at 15 pounds an has a thickness of only 5.5 inches, but to fully open the lid requires that 19 inch dimension.

This scanner has an impressive 36,000 cycles, mean time between failures. Which provides a long and reliable life on your desk. It truly is a big hit.
