Don’t
Have One, But You Need It
Twenty-five thousand dollars, I exclaimed. I can’t believe you need that
much equipment to open a studio. My mentor told me, to be ready to shoot in the
studio or out on location in any of three camera formats that a client may choose,
that dollar amount of equipment was what was required. That was 1974, now the
cost maybe even more. Today, one good digital camera with a high-resolution digital
back may cost that much to obtain. The good news is you don’t need to support
three camera formats any more. The correct digital set up may fill the bill.
How do you know what equipment to choose before purchase? Or what if I only need
to use a piece of equipment for a day or two? You must choose wisely grasshopper.
If you don’t have help with your selections from a fictitious television
Zen master, then you better stop by pictureline. We have a great rental department,
which is stocked with some of the best equipment available. This is the answer
for temporary day use, or to test before you buy. Reasonable rates make it possible
to test things you have only dreamt about.
If you have a special requirement for a low light level shoot that has to be
done digitally, then you can rent a Canon 1Ds with the new EF 85mm, f/1.2 lens.
It is as exotic as it is functional, yet it is available. Maybe you prefer not
to work in the dark, how about a Dyna-lite 1000 watt wireless strobe kit? Suppose
you are shooting film and have a chance to cover a great sporting event. Reserve
and try a Canon EOS 1vHS with booster drive, it shoots at 9 frames a second.
Need a little extra reach, try the Canon EF 300mm, f/2.8 super-telephoto lens
to go on that camera. We have available all of the support gear to make things
happen. We have tripods, light stands, softboxes, flash meters, wireless strobe
triggers, cameras, and lenses ready to be checked out.
Take a look on www.pictureline.com/rental for
a full list of equipment, pricing, and rental policies. Then give Jacob, our
rental manager, a call in the store at 801-364-1200. He can give you pricing
information and make certain you are on the reservation list for the day you
will need those special items. Then you just stop by to fill out the paperwork
and credit card deposit forms and you are on your way to have fun and make beautiful
photographs.
