A Hard Drive For All Around Usage

pictureline has just introduced an interesting new product for the digital photographer who needs a rugged, large capacity, portable storage device.  Digital Fusions has created a new portable storage device called HardFilm.  HardFilm is a 60GB hard drive, operating at 7200 rpm with a fire wire connection, which transfers the data and supplies power to the unit so no external power supply is required.  USB 2.0 and PCMCIA connections are also available with optional cables.

This unit was originally designed for military use and is a special shock mounted hard drive.  Most hard drives available today will lose data after being dropped only a few inches.  HardFilm™ can be dropped over two feet without loss of data.  The HardFilm unit is about the size of a PDA, and only weighs 8 oz.  It is light; it is easy to use in the field and shippable.  This means that the day’s image files may be downloaded to the HardFilm unit.  Then simply slip the HardFilm unit into an over night express mailer and send it on its way.  No special packaging, no special fragile handling, just ship it.  The desired office has your images in the morning, without a hassle.

pictureline has HardFilm in stock, at $399.00, with cable and case.  Pick yours up now.

Editorial Special Note: The enclosed HardFilm cable is a FireWire to special connector style.  In order to download the HardFilm this special cable must travel with the unit or the recipient of the hard drive unit must have a duplicate special cable.

The following is an event, currently underway, utilizing the HardFilm product.  It describes the portability and ruggedness of the HardFilm unit.

HardFilm™ Carries 15,000 images across America

Richie Knapp, LA photographer, began “14 Days in America” August 18th in New York City and will finish in Portland, Oregon on September 31st. Shooting 100 portraits in each city along the way; the portraits are of normal people from each city. Photographing from 11AM till 9:30PM each day, Richie then shipped via FedEx a HardFilm™ with the contents of his day of digital shooting to Digital Fusion in LA for processing. Richie’s toolbox includes: Imacon 132C digital back on his Hasselblad 503CW and HardFilm™ digital storage. The crew slept in motor homes while traveling to the next city. The Discovery Channel is making a documentary of the event. The images will be used for a book project and traveling exhibit.
