Canon Powershot G7 Digital Camera Overview
New G-Series Flagship Incorporates Latest Canon Technologies
Canon's acclaimed G-Series has a new top-of-the-line model, and serious photography enthusiasts have a lot to be excited about. A matte black, retro-hip design houses impressive capabilities and top core specifications, including 10.0 megapixel resolution and a powerful 6x optical zoom. Loaded with Canon's latest and most advanced technologies, including an Optical Image Stabilizer for clear shots throughout the zoom range, PowerShot G7 is a camera to be reckoned with.
Advanced technology in classic design
Stylish, retro design 10.0 Megapixel digital camera with 6x Optical Zoom with Optical Image Stabilizer Technology for steady, long zoom shooting
PowerShot G7 harks back to classic great camera design with a retro-hip sensibility. The camera's full 10.0 megapixels of resolution creates stunning, deeply detailed images that allow virtually unlimited enlargement and cropping.
PowerShot G7's 6x zoom lens gets you right into the action, and incorporates Canon's most sophisticated optic technology to achieve consistent brightness and clarity throughout the zoom range. Precision engineered lenses reduce and correct aberrations, while Canon's new SR coating technology (used here for the first time in a digital camera) virtually eliminates ghosting.
PowerShot G7 achieves excellent-quality images in situations prone to camera shake and image blurring - thanks to Canon's exclusive Optical Image Stabilizer. Whether you're shooting outdoors at dusk, inside without a flash, or at the end of the zoom range, camera shake is detected and effectively canceled.
Canon technology maximizes quality and performance
DIGIC III Image Processor with Face Detection Technology for superior image quality, fast operation and low power consumption
DIGIC III Image Processor
The DIGIC III Image Processor is the latest advancement to Canon's proprietary DIGIC technology, delivering superior image quality, ultra-responsive performance and extended battery life. DIGIC III provides a speedier interface for the G7's SD memory card as well as higher definition for its LCD monitor.
DIGIC III also empowers new Face Detection AF/AE, which finds all the faces in the frame and sets the most suitable focus point, when the shutter button is depressed half-way. Exposure and flash are controlled to ensure proper illumination of both the faces and the overall scene, eliminating the common problem of darkened or overexposed faces.
iSAPS Technology
iSAPS Technology is an entirely original scene-recognition technology developed for digital cameras by Canon. Using an internal database of thousands of different photos, iSAPS works with the fast DIGIC III Image Processor to improve focus speed and accuracy, as well as exposure and white balance.
See the image in a big monitor
Large 2.5-inch LCD monitor with wide viewing angle for easier on-camera viewing
The camera's 2.5-inch LCD monitor gives you the big picture, whether you're shooting, reviewing or showing off your images. This high-resolution screen offers a crisp, clear picture and wider viewing angle to make shooting, playback and using the camera's menu functions especially convenient. Clear and bright, it also features Night Display for easy viewing in low light.
Canon innovation enhances your experience
ISO 1600 to reduce image blur and expand low-light shooting capability
The PowerShot G7 features new ISO 1600 and High ISO Auto settings that reduce the effects of camera shake and sharpen subjects in low-light situations, giving you greater flexibility for shooting.
Get more lighting power
Compatible with a number of auxiliary lenses and EOS Speedlite flashes for extended photographic capabilities
The PowerShot G7 is compatible with many shooting accessories, not only wide and tele converter lenses, a waterproof case and High-Power Flash designed for all of the PowerShot models, but also Speedlite EX series that is compatible with all EOS series SLR cameras. By using Speedlites, the G7 is able to have extra functions such as autoflash metering, FE lock and Flash exposure compensation, continuous shooting with external flash and more.
Better shooting experience
Easy to access ISO and Mode dials for convenient, customized shooting
G7's expanded selection of ISO settings (80, 100, 200, 400, 800, 1600, High ISO Auto and AUTO) is now controlled from a dedicated dial, for quick, intuitive access. | Pros: The size is good, like the 10 MP. But I'd rather have an upgrade to the G6, not and entirely new camera. Cons: All the annoying and needless changes from G6: battery size different, no wireless remote, no articulated screen (so handy w/remote for self-photos), different memory card size. Other Thoughts: I've always upgraded every time a new camera came out but I'm sticking with the G6 until it dies. | |

| Pros: It's about time Canon came out with this camera. I've been waiting for too long. After playing with it though, I can say it was probably worth the wait. Cons: No RAW. What were they thinking? | |

| Pros: The feel of the new Powershot G7 is absolutely awesome. The black matte finish makes it look very stylish. The functions and 6x optical zoom makes it a perfect companion when I don't want to take my 30D and lenses. Cons: none yet | |
