Nikon GP-1 GPS Adapter Overview
Nikon is proud to introduce the ability to geotag image files captured with select Nikon digital SLR
cameras with one simple add-on accessory.
The new Nikon GP-1 GPS adapter, when connected to a wide assortment of compatible digital SLR
cameras (listed below), works almost anywhere in the world to record latitude, longitude, altitude and Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) data in JPEG and RAW (NEF) images. The compact GP-1 mounts on the camera’s flash accessory shoe and also includes a strap adapter for use in instances when the accessory shoe is occupied with another accessory.
Software applications such as Nikon ViewNX, Capture NX 2 and other image editing programs, as well as web-based services such as MyPicturetown.com can recognize and display this location data. When connected to the Internet, Nikon ViewNX even allows viewing of an image’s location on Google™ Maps.
With the GP-1, photographers will no longer struggle to remember where a shot was captured.
Insurance adjusters can use the GP-1 to add location information to a file, law enforcement agencies can include invaluable information for their case work and real estate salespeople can tag the location of a property for sale.
The GP-1 can even supply GPS data to a computer for use with mapping software and other applications by connecting it with the UC-E4 USB cable supplied with all current Nikon digital SLR cameras*.
The GP-1 is compatible with and includes all the necessary cables to connect to the following digital SLR
cameras:
D3X, D3, D2Xs, D2X, D2Hs, D700, D300, D200, D90
