The Leica SL2 Mirrorless Digital Camera Body is the second generation camera of the visionary Leica SL-System, representing the next evolutionary step towards Leica’s goal of building the perfect all-purpose camera. Feedback from photographers and existing SL owners helped to direct Leica in the development of the SL2, and the result is a camera that pushes the envelope of technological innovation and performance, while maintaining the heritage of design and legacy for which Leica is so well-known. The SL2 is a pleasure to use, but does not sacrifice any features or image quality to achieve this easy-to-use interface. For a truly enjoyable photo or video capture experience with the ultimate image quality, choose the SL2.
47 Megapixels for superior image quality
The SL2 uses an unprecedented 47MP full-frame CMOS image sensor. This sensor has incredible dynamic range, a color depth of 14 bits per RGB channel, and a sensitivity of up to 50,000 ISO. Despite the high resolution, image quality is outstanding in all lighting conditions. Even when combined with the crop-frame lenses for the TL series cameras, resolution is still more than 20 megapixels.
Maestro III Processor
The brain behind the SL2 is the new Maestro III processor, which facilitates faster operating speeds in all areas. This processor enables significantly faster autofocus and virtually lag-free shutter release in any shooting situation. When combined with the new Smart AF mode, the camera will automatically switch between focus priority and shutter-release priority. The SL2 also has two UHS-II compatible SD card slots, and thanks to the Maestro III, shooting at up to 20fps is now a reality.
Leica EyeRes Viewfinder
The SL2 doesn’t just have good-looking files. The electronic viewfinder now boasts a 5.76 megapixel resolution, allowing for a large and incredibly natural-looking viewfinder experience. When not using the viewfinder, the 3.2" touch screen provides an increased resolution of 2.1 megapixels, making either viewing experience better than ever.
Sensor Shift Technology
In a major evolution from the original SL, the Leica SL2 utilizes a suspended CMOS sensor. This sensor adjusts its position to quickly and accurately compensate for camera shake. By including In Body Image Stabilization (IBIS), the SL2 is able to stabilize the image even when using non-Leica or L-Mount lenses. Additionally, the SL2 utilizes the suspended CMOS to allow for a multi-shot mode, where a tripod-mounted camera can record up to eight consecutive frames, each with the sensor shifting in half-pixel increments. The result is a quadrupled resolution nearly 187 megapixels in size, a feature previously only found on medium format digital cameras.
Ready for Hollywood
In addition to industry-leading still image quality, the SL2 can perform exceptionally on even the most demanding video productions. Whether it’s the 4K full-frame up to 60fps, 5K at 29.97fps, or FHD up to 180fps, the photo and video settings are separated and independent, helping to ensure the camera remains correctly configured and ready to shoot immediately after changing modes.
IP54 Weather Sealing
The SL2 carries an IP54 certification for weather and dust sealing, meaning the camera can be used with confidence in even the harshest and most unforgiving weather conditions. Combined with an unmatched, all-metal, solid construction and paired with its elegant leather wrap, the SL2 is as equally tough as it is good-looking.
L-Mount Alliance Lenses
Developed by Leica, the L-Mount is the beginning of a new alliance between Leica, Sigma, and Panasonic. With a mount diameter of 51.6mm, the L-Mount lenses are suitable for cameras with either full frame or APS-C sensors, and both are compatible. Featuring four tabs to keep the L-Mount lenses from tilting and ensuring tight coupling of camera and lens, and a short flange distance of only 20mm, L-Mount lenses from any of the partners will stay optically sharp and consistent no matter what body they are used on.
