Designed for refined movie imagery

In addition to smooth, versatile power zoom, this remarkably compact lens minimizes angle of view shifts that can occur when focusing and axial shifts when zooming so that stable, high quality movie footage can be easily captured. Focus, zoom and aperture operation are also extremely quiet, greatly reducing noise and vibration that can interfere with movie recording.

Evolved image quality

This compact, lightweight, full-frame constant F4 wide-angle power zoom lens delivers superb G Lens image quality. It includes two AA (advanced aspherical) elements, a Super ED (Extra-low Dispersion) element and an ED element to effectively suppress distortion and aberration.

Naturally rendered bokeh and excellent close-up performance

A 7 bladed circular aperture and well controlled spherical aberration deliver natural, smooth bokeh. Minimum focusing distance of just 9.5-inch (0.24 m) with 0.23x maximum magnification and constant length make this lens an excellent choice for close-up photography.

Smooth power zoom with rapid response

A new power zoom system driven by four XD (Extreme Dynamic) Linear Motors for the first time in an Alpha lens provides smooth control with the immediacy of manual zoom. Even subtle zoom ring rotation is precisely detected and instantaneously converted to zoom operation. A continuously variable zoom lever makes it easy to execute super-slow constant-speed zooms, and zoom can be remotely controlled even while the camera is mounted on a gimbal.

XD Linear Motors deliver stunning AF performance

Two XD (Extreme Dynamic) Linear Motors deliver high thrust for quick, quiet, low vibration autofocus while maintaining compact lens dimensions. Tenacious, reliable AF can smoothly track subjects while shooting high frame rate photos or movies. With a compatible camera, it is possible to maintain accurate focus while shooting stills continuously at up to 30 frames per second and movies up to 120fps. Subjects are smoothly tracked even while zooming.

Consistent balance for easy handling with internal focus and zoom structures

Although this compact wide-angle zoom lens weighs just 12.5 oz (353 g), it does not compromise functionality or performance in any way. Its length remains constant while focusing and zooming for optimal balance and handling, which also makes it ideal for gimbal or even aircraft mounted movie shooting or with the use of a matte box.

Constant or variable zoom speed controllable from lens or compatible cameras/remotes

Power zoom can be controlled with the response and immediacy of a manual zoom with the lens ring. Slow and fast zoom rate is accessible from the lens zoom lever. Up to 8 speeds can be set from the zoom lever or custom keys on compatible cameras. Zoom functions of compatible cameras can be operated without touching the camera by Bluetooth connection from compatible remote controls or Smart devices with Imaging Edge Mobile.

Dust and moisture resistant design and front fluorine coating for reliability

Dust and moisture resistant design makes this lens appropriate for heavy-duty outdoor use providing the reliability needed in challenging conditions by professionals and enthusiasts. All seams are sealed, buttons and switches have silicone rubber gaskets, and a rubber ring seals the lens mount. The internal zoom and focus mechanisms further resist dust and moisture while maintaining a constant lens barrel length.

Linear Response MF for precise/repeatable manual focus control

Linear Response MF (manual focus) ensures that the focus ring responds directly and linearly to subtle control when focusing manually while shooting stills or movies. Focus ring rotation translates directly to a corresponding change in focus, so control feels immediate and precise when shooting stills or movies.

Instant auto/manual focus selection

Instantly and quickly switch between auto and manual focus via an AF/MF switch on the side of the lens. This makes operation faster and easier as you let the camera and lens focus for you or decide to take control and manually focus on the precise point you choose.

Three-ring control: zoom, focus and aperture

Independent zoom, focus, and aperture rings on this compact lens offer flexible, intuitive creative control. Responsive zoom control is indispensable for movies, and Linear Response MF ensure that the focus ring responds directly and repeatably to subtle control when focusing manually. The aperture ring has an aperture click switch that allows the click stops to be turned off when smooth, seamless aperture adjustment is required as well as a lock switch to avoid inadvertently shifting from auto control.

A customizable focus hold button not only performs its primary function to lock focus when recomposing but can be customized via the camera body menu settings to a number of other functions depending on your needs.
