10 Things You Need to Know About the New Canon EOS-1D X Mark III

Canon’s ultimate EOS Camera is here—The Canon EOS-1D X Mark III. This camera is a game-changer for professional photographers everywhere and has raised the bar when it comes to pro DSLR performance. Below, we will fill you in on the 10 things you’ll need to know about this high-performance camera.

Image Quality is Crazy

The EOS-1D X Mark III is the first in Canon’s DSLR line to feature the all-new DIGIC X image processor, which has been engineered to enhance fine detail with the newly developed four-layer low-pass filter—both working together to improve overall resolution. The 35mm full-frame CMOS sensor has approximately 20.1 effective megapixels and is designed to capture crisp, clear, noise-free imagery.

Shoot High-end Video—Internally or Externally

Canon’s most powerful DSLR for video to date, the EOS-1D X Mark III features 4K 60p video capability with the option to shoot 5.5K RAW video or 10-bit 4:2:2 video with Canon Log, recorded internally to CFexpress card(s) in available dual card slots, or export via HDMI to an external drive. The dual CFexpress card slots also support high-end video production—the EOS 1-D X Mark III can record 5.5K RAW on one CFexpress card while simultaneously recording 4K MP4 video on the second.

The EOS-1D X Mark III achieves a maximum burst rate of 1000 images or more (RAW + JPEG) in continuous shooting to help capture the perfect moment.

You Have Options for Your Images

You'll never have to change your workflow since the EOS-1D X Mark III captures images in RAW, JPEG or as 10-bit High-Efficiency Image File (HEIF) format, which provides a wider dynamic range and greater color representation.

Super-fast Frame Rates

High-speed continuous shooting of 16 fps, and up to 20 fps in Live View. Jumping up from the 14fps and 16 fps in Live View from the previous 1D X Mark II.

You’ll Never Lose Focus

Featuring a 191-point AF system, the Canon EOS-1D X Mark III also features EOS iTR (Intelligent Tracking and Recognition), which helps accurately track moving subjects with Face Detection AF and new Head Detection AF, as well as Eye Detection AF while shooting video or while in Live View mode. For even faster focusing, the EOS-1D X Mark III also features an expansive focus area of approximately 90% horizontal and 100% vertical, a maximum of 3,869 manually selectable AF positions, and up to 525 automatic positions.

It Can See in the Dark

An incredibly wide ISO range of 100-102,400—expandable to 50-819,200—supports shooting in low-light scenarios or fast-changing lighting situations. This new ISO range doubles that of the Canon EOS-1D X Mark II.

Files Transfer Even Faster

Transfer files at double the speed of the Mark II with the built-in Ethernet port or through the optional WFT-E9 wireless file transmitter. The WFT-E9 wireless file transmitter can conveniently transfer images using FTP transfer, EOS utility, or Browser Remote. It's compact, durable and has a lightweight body sealed for dust and water-resistance.

Built-in Wi-Fi® and Bluetooth technology help the Canon EOS-1D X Mark III communicate quickly and easily with compatible smart devices, and via the Canon Camera Connect App.
