Canon has announced the development plans for the first camera in their mirrorless pro-line — the Canon EOS R5. This powerhouse full-frame camera will feature 8K video recording, allowing for the production of higher-quality 4K video as well as the ability to obtain high-resolution still images from footage.

It will also feature a newly developed CMOS sensor that will allow for advanced specs like continuous shooting up to 20 FPS using an electronic shutter and 12 FPS with a mechanical shutter.

The R5 will be the first mirrorless camera from Canon to incorporate a high-performance in-body stabilization (IBIS) system that will work in tandem with the in-lens stabilization (IS), allowing for shooting in low-light conditions not previously possible.

Another feature that was highly sought after with the EOS R is a dual card slot, ensuring the ability to shoot fast and safely. In addition, the EOS R5 will support automatic image transfers to the cloud platform which will be launched in April.

Canon will also be introducing seven RF lenses and two RF lens extenders scheduled for release in 2020, including the RF 100-500mm f/4.5-7.1 L IS USM, Extender RF 1.4x and Extender RF 2x.
