The Canon XA70 Professional UHD 4K Camcorder is a compact and lightweight camera ideal for documentary or journalism-style productions. It offers UHD 4K capture, a 1" CMOS sensor, two XLR audio inputs, and a mini-HDMI output, placing it in the ENG category. This model has been updated from its predecessor, the XA55, with notable improvements including a larger 3.5mm LCD capacitive touchscreen display, a higher resolution tiltable 0.36" OLED EVF, OSD metadata recording, and a fast USB Type-C video-only output with UVC support for livestreaming to a computer.

Another notable feature is the On-Screen Display (OSD) "Time Stamp" recording, which embeds date, time, timecode, and other data into the camera files, fulfilling the requirement for legal and law enforcement videographers.

15x Optical Zoom Lens

The camera's lens optics feature an integrated 15x HD optical zoom, a nine-bladed circular iris for natural-looking highlights, and wide DR gamma support for excellent low-light recording. It incorporates professional-style features such as Dual-Pixel and Contrast autofocus, fast- and slow-motion recording, full manual control, optical and electronic image stabilization, a 3.5" touchscreen LCD, user-assignable buttons, infrared mode, and a DIG!C DV 6 image processor known for its high sensitivity and low noise. Additionally, the XA70 includes display monitoring features like zebra, color bars, and test tone, as well as a built-in neutral density filter mechanism.

XF-AVC and MP4 Recording

When it comes to recording capabilities, the camera can capture UHD 4K30 and Full HD 1080p60 footage, which can be saved to dual SD card slots in XF-AVC and MP4 formats. The camera also offers simultaneous recording to both cards and automatic switching between them. Through its mini-HDMI port, it can output up to 1920 x 1080p 10-bit 4:2:2 video at 59.94 fps. On the audio side, the XA70 supports up to four channels of LPCM audio with manual or automatic recording levels, and it provides two XLR inputs with phantom power, a 3.5mm stereo mini input, a built-in stereo microphone, a headphone jack, and a 2.5mm LANC input for control.

UVC Livestreaming

The XA70 also offers UVC livestreaming functionality, allowing you to stream HD video directly from the camera to a Windows or macOS computer using UVC1. However, audio output through USB is not supported.
