Let's Talk Drones: GoPro Karma vs. DJI Mavic Pro

Okay, you guys, we cannot get enough of these amazing new drones! Both, the GoPro Karma and the DJI Mavic Pro, have opened up a whole new category of photography. The aerial footage they capture is truly some of the best photographs we have seen our customers create. And since they are both so portable, they create an opportunity to be able to shoot everywhere you go. The question is not whether you need one, the question is WHICH one do you need? Take a look at how they compare to figure out which one is best for your needs.

We decided to create this little chart that gives a side by side comparison of the some of the best features of these new drones. Keep in mind, what you will be using it for and where you will be taking it. Narrowing down your specific use for the drone will help you make a better decision in the end.

All in all, it appears that they are a pretty fair match. Where the Karma lacks in quality it makes up for in price. Because although the Mavic has technical advantages, when you break it down it is much more expensive. Because the Karma comes with the GoPro Hero5, which on its own is $399, as well as the Karma Grip, which is $299, making the drone itself only $400. That's a pretty unbeatable price point, and being able to break it down and use the Karma Grip for a variety of shots, makes it an all-around great filming system. The Mavic does have some pretty key advantages, however. It is smaller, faster, longer battery life, and easier to fly because of obstacle-avoidance and more sensors on the drone itself.

Ultimately, the decision is yours. We recommend the Mavic Pro as a great drone for semi-pro filmmakers looking for the compact design and portability of the Mavic. The Karma is great for beginner filmmakers or adventure photographers, and is really handy for someone just getting started in the drone world.

Still have questions? Come by the store and check these drones out for yourself! Berkley is our "drone guy" and he would be happy to help you decide which drone is best for you.
